Would YOU Read A Book By This Man?
Dr Robert Bratcher was the chief translator of the Good News Bible. He openly denied the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ and the inerrancy of Scripture. Below are some of the statements he made:
"Jesus Christ would not enjoy omniscience. That is an attribute of God. ... Jesus did not claim He and the Father to be one — which would be absurd."
Robert Bratcher
Jesus said: 'I and my Father are one.'
John 10:30
The Bible says: 'And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in
the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.'
1 Timothy 3:16
"Only willful ignorance or intellectual dishonesty can account for the claim that the Bible is inerrant and infallible ... To invest the Bible with the qualities of inerrancy and infallibility is to idolatrize it, to transform it into a false god. . ." Robert Bratcher
The Bible says: 'The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.'
Psalm 12: 6-7
The Bible says: 'Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.'
Proverbs 30:5
"Often in the past and still too often in the present to affirm that the Bible is the Word of God implies that the words of the Bible are the words of God. Such simplistic and absolute terms divest the Bible altogether of its humanity and remove it from the relativism of the historical process. No one seriously claims all the words of the Bible are the very words of God. If someone does so it is only because that person is not willing thoroughly to explore its implications. . ."
Robert Bratcher
The Bible says; 'All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
The Bible says: 'For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the
word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
""As a biblical scholar, I view with dismay the misuse of scriptures by fundamentalists; . . "
Robert Bratcher
(The Baptist Courier, Apr. 2, 1981)
Dr Robert Bratcher was asked the following question about the Bible after giving a lecture at Furman University:
"`You admit that the Bible has fallacies; then how is it valuable?'
"`If we build our faith wholly on the Bible, then we are building our faith on shifting sand. We must follow the facts or there is nothing to believe. We cannot literally follow Jesus, only go in his direction'."
Robert Bratcher
(The Greenville News, November 8, 1970)
The Bible says: 'As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.'
Psalm 18:30
The Bible says: 'And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Matthew 7:26
Dr Robert Bratcher was asked the following questions at the First Baptist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina:
Question: `Why did you leave out the blood of Jesus Christ in Romans 5:9 and 14 and other places?'
Answer: `It is a matter of translation.'
Question: `Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour?'
Answer: Dr Bratcher would not answer this question.
Question: `Is the human heart by nature Man-centred or God-centred?'
Answer: `Let us stick with questions about translation.'
Question: `Is Jesus Christ God, or the same as God?'
Answer: `Jesus is not the same personality as God.'
Dr Robert Bratcher was also asked the following question at the First Baptist Church in North
Augusta, South Carolina:
Question: `If you should die, do you know you would go to
heaven?'
Answer: Dr Bratcher would not answer this question either.'
The Bible says:
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father
which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 10:32-33
'Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, ...'
Psalm 107:2
Just A Few Verses Compared
King James Bible
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:28 It is God's blood that was shed! Jesus Christ is God! |

So keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock which the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he made his own through the blood of his Son. Acts 20:28 The GNB attacks the deity of Christ by changing ' ... his own blood' to ' the blood of his Son'! 'Son' is not found in any Greek text! |
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
I Timothy 3:16 GOD was manifest in the flesh! JESUS IS CLEARLY SHOWN TO BE ALMIGHTY GOD! What an powerful doctrinal statement of the deity of Christ! |
No one can deny how great is the secret of our religion:
He appeared in human form, was shown to be right by the Spirit, and was seen by angels. He was preached among the nations, was believed in throughout the world, and was taken up to heaven. 1 Timothy 3:16 What has happened to God? Who is 'He'? "He" is a pronoun that refers to a noun or antecedent. Where is the antecedent in the context? The statement doesn't make sense! |
That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 1Timothy 6:14-15, KJB |
to obey your orders and keep them faithfully until the Day when our Lord Jesus Christ will appear.
His appearing will be brought about at the right time by God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. 1Timothy 6:13 -15 GNB In 1 Timothy 6:14-16, the GNB completely strips the Lord Jesus Christ of His title ' ... the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;" by inserting the words " ... by God ..." without any Greek evidence whatsoever! This is yet another Unitarian attack on the deity of Christ in the GNB. |
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
Ephesians 3:9 The Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son, is the creator! |
and of making all people see how God's secret plan is to be put into effect. God, who is the Creator of all things, kept his secret hidden through all the past ages,
Ephesians 3:9, GNB In Ephesians 3:9, the GNB deliberately removes the Lord Jesus as the creator of all creation! NO Greek manuscripts exist to back up this deliberate Unitarian attack on the deity of Christ. |
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1 Jesus Christ the Word, is God! |
Before the world was created, the Word already existed; he was with God, and he was the same as God.
John 1:1 GNB The infinite, eternal "In the beginning ...' is changed in the GNB to "Before the world was created ..." thus a time constraint is added! The clear and indisputable pronouncement that Jesus is God - ' ... the Word was God.' has been changed to 'he was the same as God.' This change attacks the deity of Christ yet again. There is now a difference between the Word and God! There is NO Greek evidence for this deliberate Unitarian corruption. |
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily Colossians 2:9, KJB |
For the full content of divine nature lives in Christ, in his humanity, Colossians 2:9 GNB The GNB attacks the declaration that in the Lord Jesus Christ ' ... dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.' The New Age teaching of divine-humanity is presented in the GNB: 'the full content of divine nature lives in Christ, in his humanity. ' This is yet another deliberate attack on the deity of Christ and is the teaching of the serpent in Genesis 3:5 ' ... ye shall be as gods ...' |
Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
Revelation 1:11, |
It said, "Write down what you see, and send the book to the churches in these seven cities: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea."
Revelation 1:11, GNB The GNB deliberately removes the titles ' ...Alpha and Omega, the first and the last.' from the Lord Jesus Christ. This is just another Unitarian attack on the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. |
To be continued.
